The following is selected Vergil-esque music from the Devil May Cry 3 soundtrack. The music in Devil May Cry 3, for me, was an interesting experience. It went from something I didn't really like to something really good! Musically, in the game, the closer you get to the portal between the human and demon world the less "electronic" the music is. For instance, the music which played when you first enter the Temen-ni-Gru and after Arkham had been found out differs greatly. There's also a leitmotif throughout the soundtrack.

My favorite, and the reason for having this on the site, is the music for Mission 20. The final Vergil boss fight. When I was playing through it for the first time, I was basically stunned by the music. It was just amazing. There are very few games which have music which distracts me away from the gameplay. This is a prime example. It's because it had a symphony orchestra?! If you ask me, I think it's half the work of a synthesizer, but i'll pretend to not think that. It was the trumpets, the tubas, the harp! (if you can hear it...) One of my most memorable live experiences is playing in a symphony orchestra. It is absolutely amazing, everyone around you, the music, the volume of it. It's something that's undescribable. This is sheer brilliance in videogame music! If only more games were like this...

  1. Sibling Showdown - Before the final Vergil fight in Devil May Cry 3.
  2. Vergil Batttle 3 -Was there ever a song that made you stop and listen? A song that sort of pulled you away from whatever you were doing? This song is one of them for me. The first time I listened to this, I was barely paying attention to whatever was going on in the fight.
  3. Mission 20 End - The conclusion.
  4. "Dante's Prayer" by Loreena McKennit - You may have noticed that I've used random lyrics all over the site. Quite a few of them are from this, and as you can tell by the title they're actually of relevance to The Divine Comedy. To tell you the truth, when I first listened to this, I had a strange feeling. The voice, although I grew up listening to her music, it was just so haunting. However, there was a strong sense in direction that this song "was the song". Although this song is in reference to Alighieri's Divine Comedy at the same time it had a strong sense of Vergil's character. Lyrics?.
