▏▎▍ • CONTENTION  -  THE DEVIL'S CRY

When a "cry" is made in the Devil May Cry series, it tends to mark a change in the story. The phase "Devil May Cry" was first coined by Lady when Dante ran into her shortly after leaving the Temen-ni-Gru. It was in context of Dante shedding tears over a loved one. It was over the "loss" of Vergil. The phrase was then used as the name of Dante's demon hunting business. However, after meeting Trish and the events of Mallet island, he renames his business to "Devil Never Cry" in reference to the phrase he said to Trish while she was crying after Mundus' defeat.

± "You will not forget this devil's power!"
As the series generally deals with the weeping cry, one must not forget Vergil's cry. It was a battle cry made towards Mundus while he was trapped in the demon world. Whatever happened in that battle, it was left unsaid. However, it marked the birth of Nelo Angelo.

± Other uses of "Devil May Cry"
On the default game controls page in the Devil May Cry 3 manual, whether it be the regular version or Special Edition, it says the following:

"His name is Dante. He's a freelance jack-of-all-trades in the modern underworld.
But - his other occupation is even more extraordinary. He is the son of Sparda, the legendary demon who fought on the side of mortals.

Those who know Dante all say the same thing...

"I don't know anybody as crazy or as skilled. If he glares at a guy, even the DEVIL MAY CRY!"
